Aphids are small soft-bodied insects with many different species.  They appear in various colors like white, black, brown, yellow green or red and most are only about 1/8 inch long. They feed by sucking nutrient rich liquids out of plants with their needle like mouth parts.  Beneficial insects, like ladybugs and hover flies, feed on aphids helping to keep the aphid populations under control.
