Log Off... Shut Down... Get Outside!
Chicken Chat time at MetroParks' Chrisholm Historic Farmstead. Farmers raise chickens for a variety of reasons, such as meat, eggs, feathers, natural insect control, show and loving pets. At the farm, there are 7 Standard Hens and 5 Bantam Hens and their breeds are: Red Star Linked, Easter Egger, Australorp, Cuckoo Marans, Mille de Fleur D'Uccle Bantam, Dutch Bantams and Sebright Bantams.
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Picture 1 shows a growth development kit inside a fertilized egg.
Can you see our Bantams enjoying recess outside on a sunny day in photo 2?
MetroParks' chickens are domesticated animals which mean humans must feed, water and provide shelter for them every day. Come and visit the chickens at Chrisholm Historic Farmstead during regular park hours of 8:00 a.m. to dusk under the overhang of the red barn.
We offer a periodic newsletter with information about upcoming events and programs.
