Pink Full Moon
Look up! Tonight there will be a full moon in the sky, and this month’s moon is called the Pink Moon. But will the moon be pink? Probably not. It’s named after a pinkish-purple flower that is native to the eastern United States (Ohio included), called Creeping Phlox, which blooms around this time each year. Creeping Phlox is commonly used as a ground cover in gardens and along walkways. Have you ever seen this pretty flower?
The sky may also appear brighter tonight as this month’s full moon is also a super moon! A super moon occurs when the moon is within 90% of perigee, or the point when the moon is closest to the Earth. It will be about 7% larger and 15% brighter than average.
Venture outside tonight for this spectacular moon!
The next full moon will take place on Wednesday, May 26th, and is called the Blood Mood. It will be another super moon and also a partial lunar eclipse! Stay tuned.
