Log Off... Shut Down... Get Outside!
The days have been getting shorter, nights have been getting longer and cold weather is here. Winter officially begins today! The Winter Solstice, also known as the December Solstice, is the is the moment when the sun reaches the Tropic of Capricorn. It is our shortest day and longest night. Which means that daylight will begin lasting a few more minutes each day starting tomorrow, until we reach the Summer Solstice in June when the pattern will reverse again.
All of the above is true for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, but for those in the Southern Hemisphere the exact opposite is occurring!
Take a break from your day to observe your shadow at noon today and you'll see your longest noontime shadow of the year!
We offer a periodic newsletter with information about upcoming events and programs.
