Great Miami River Trail Construction to Begin – Timberhill Area of Rentschler Forest MetroPark and Unpaved Portion of Great Miami River Trail to Close
Starting August 16, 2021, the Timberhill Area of Rentschler Forest MetroPark and the unpaved portion of the Great Miami River Trail (GMRT) connecting Timberhill to Reigart Road will close for construction of the Great Miami River Trail Extension project. The closure is expected to last until June 2022.
The project will be a step toward filling in the seven-mile gap in the GMRT between the cities of Hamilton and Middletown and will provide a continuous paved trail connection between the Timberhill Area of Rentschler Forest MetroPark to Hamilton and Fairfield. A new 0.6-mile paved section of the GMRT will be constructed from the end of the existing trail east of Reigart Road, eastward to the Timberhill Area of Rentschler Forest MetroPark, where a new trailhead will be established. The project will also widen part of the access driveway into Timberhill and upgrade an existing parking area to serve as a new trail access point.
