MetroParks of Butler County, in partnership with the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities (BCBDD) and a coalition of community organizations, is proud to celebrate the installation of the county’s first publicly accessible universal changing tables. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on July 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Field House at Voice of America MetroPark, marking a major milestone in making outdoor spaces more inclusive for all.

These state-of-the-art universal changing tables are designed to serve individuals with physical and developmental disabilities of all ages, offering families and caregivers dignified and accessible facilities that support independence. The equipment was funded through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant dollars secured by BCBDD.

MetroParks is honored to be one of the first sites to offer this critical amenity, reaffirming its commitment to removing barriers and making nature accessible for everyone. “Awakening the Explorer in Everyone means more than offering trails and playgrounds,” said MetroParks Executive Director Jackie O’Connell. “It means equipping people with the information and resources they need to enjoy the outdoors comfortably and safely.”

The ribbon-cutting also coincides with the release of MetroParks’ new Accessibility Guide, developed in partnership with MetroParks staff and community accessibility advocates. This comprehensive resource provides detailed information about park features, including accessible restrooms, seating, drinking water, trail conditions, and playgrounds, empowering visitors to plan their trips with confidence. The guide is now available online here.

In addition to MetroParks, other locations installing universal changing tables include MidPointe Libraries, Fitton Family YMCA, Inspiration Studios, Spooky Nook Sports Champion Mill, the City of Oxford, and the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields. Not all sites are yet open to the public; more information is available through BCBDD.
