Kestrel Shelter
- The shelter located at 1976 Timberman Road is equipped with electrical outlets, picnic tables and a grill and can accommodate groups of approximately 50 people.
- A paved parking area is near the shelter with paved walkways from the parking lot to the shelter and the 1.3 mile paved trail.
- This park does not have a playground.
- A water fountain near the shelter is available seasonally.
- Restroom facilities nearby consist of 2 portable toilets, one handicap accessible.
General Information:
- When reserved, there will be a “Reserved” sign on the shelter indicating that the shelter has been reserved for the day.
- Shelter reservations are daily from 8am to dusk.
- Upon departure, please leave shelter clean and all garbage placed in containers provided. (Visitors may want to bring extra trash bags.)
- Fishing is permitted with a valid Ohio Fishing License and all ponds are catch and release.
- All vehicles must park in designated parking spaces.
- Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash, no longer than 6’ in length. Please clean up after your pet.
- No Alcoholic beverages are permitted in the park.
- Trail maps can be found on the website by selecting MetroParks – Forest Run MetroPark - Timberman Ridge.
- Use of firearms and fireworks is strictly prohibited in all areas of the park.
- Motor Vehicle Permit required. FREE to Butler County Residents. Non-Residents $8/daily or $15 annually. A Group Motor Vehicle Permit for non-Butler County residents can be purchased in advance with your reservation for $25.

River Center Welcome Center Closed 6/28-7/8/22
The River Center at Bicentennial Commons Welcome Center will be closed 6/28-7/8/22. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Forest Run MetroPark Storm Damage
A portion of Forest Run MetroPark, including staff offices at 1976 Timberman Rd. sustained substantial damage during the 6/22/22 severe weather event. The MetroParks Administrative Office and Welcome Center at 2051 Timberman Rd. was not damaged, and remains open to the public during normal operating hours. Any necessary closures of Forest Run MetroPark will be posted to the MetroParks website. Thank you for your patience while MetroParks assesses storm damage and continues clean-up efforts over the next several weeks.
GMRT Closure 122 Bridge-Summer 2022
Due to construction on the 122 Bridge, a portion of the Great Miami River Trail is closed. A trail detour is in effect, please be on the lookout for that marked route when you're out and about on the trail. This alert will be removed from the website when construction has been completed and that segment of trail has reopened to the public.
2022 Gilmore MetroPark Closures
Closures are in effect at Gilmore MetroPark to facilitate the Miami 2 Miami Trail construction project at Gilmore. For updates on current closures at the park, visit the "News" section of the MetroParks website.
Temporary closure of a section of the Pumpkin Vine Trail-Rentschler Forest MetroPark
Effective October 27, 2021 the west end of the Pumpkin Vine Trail located in the Reigart Road Area of Rentschler Forest MetroPark will be temporarily closed to park visitors to facilitate foot bridge construction. This alert will be removed from the website when the trail has re-opened.
Great Miami River Trail Construction to Begin – Timberhill Area of Rentschler Forest MetroPark and Unpaved Portion of Great Miami River Trail to Close
Starting August 16, 2021, the Timberhill Area of Rentschler Forest MetroPark and the unpaved portion of the Great Miami River Trail (GMRT) connecting Timberhill to Reigart Road will close for construction of the Great Miami River Trail Extension project. The closure is expected to last until June 2022.
