MetroParks of Butler County is proud to announce that Jackie O’Connell, Executive Director, has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy for Park & Recreation Administration (AAPRA). Her induction took place on September 16 during AAPRA’s General Membership Meeting in Orlando.

AAPRA Fellows are chosen by the Academy’s Board of Directors after a rigorous evaluation of contributions, including leadership in parks and recreation administration, commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, professional credentials, scholarship, honors, and peer recognition.

Since assuming the role of Executive Director of MetroParks of Butler County, Jackie O’Connell has advanced numerous initiatives to expand park access, enhance environmental conservation, strengthen community partnerships, and promote inclusive recreation. Under her leadership, the organization has been recognized locally for its innovation and service to the community. Her election as an AAPRA Fellow affirms her sustained commitment to excellence in parks and recreation, and signals national recognition of MetroParks as a model for thoughtful, community-centered development.

“I am deeply honored to be elected a Fellow of AAPRA,” said Jackie O’Connell. “This recognition reflects not only my commitment, but the incredible work of our entire team and the support of our community. Together, we will continue to make MetroParks a place where nature, recreation, inclusion, and conservation thrive.”
