As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the MetroParks of Butler County Police Department is reminding visitors to prioritize safety while enjoying the many beautiful parks and natural areas across the county.

“Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and our parks are a wonderful place for families and friends to gather,” said Chief Scott Reeve of the MetroParks Police Department. “We encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly and follow a few key safety guidelines to help keep our parks safe and clean.”

Park Safety Tips for Memorial Day Weekend:

  • Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water, especially if you’ll be hiking, biking, or participating in physical activities.
  • Grill with Care: Use designated grilling areas only and never leave hot grills unattended.
  • Secure Your Valuables: Lock your vehicles and keep personal belongings out of sight to prevent theft.
  • Paddle Safely: Wear your life jacket and stay hydrated when canoeing or kayaking.
  • Leash Your Pets: Dogs are welcome but must always be on a leash. Be sure to clean up after them.
  • Be Fire Aware: Open fires are prohibited unless in designated fire rings or grills.
  • Follow Park Hours: MetroParks of Butler County parks are open from 8 a.m. until dusk.

MetroParks Police officers will be patrolling throughout the weekend. To dispatch a police officer for a non-emergency, call (513) 785-1300. For emergencies, dial 911.

“Our goal is to ensure that everyone can enjoy the natural beauty of Butler County’s parks safely and respectfully,” Chief Reeve added. “With your cooperation, we can all have a safe and memorable holiday weekend.”
